pleased for Green, he should get his chance now, but Carlton should have been kept out. He went off with a slight injury yesterday and is only just back. He is
also not likely to get a kick with Hesky/Rooney/Crouch available. Kind of pointless really.
I worry about Upson now. Season is over, he isnt long term contracted with us and we arent in Europe. I can see heads getting turned here. Im willing to bet £1 that he is off to Villa this summer. Laursen retired, they need a commanding CB, their other options are shit. Upson fits the bill. Gabbidons return will be our justification for selling. |

Being within the environment of the England squad is sometimes as important as actually playing to build a players confidence, and as we all know Cole is a
player who needs that to perform.

If Villa want Upson, they'll have to cough up in excess of £10million.
And Nani could buy at least 2 decent replacements with that. The last few years have shown us many things - including the irrevocable fact the team is bigger thany any one player. I want him to stay (he got my HotY vote). But I wouldn't want him around if he didn't want to be here... |

I doubt Upson would uproot from London again to go to Villa . He got his call for England playing at West Ham, and gets dropped everytime Terry or Rio come
back from suspension / injury ... only wages would swing it I reckon, don't think he'll see the Europa league that tempting.
If a top four club came in maybe, but then he'll probably be on the bench outside of Arsenal. |

Villa are trying very hard to get Olaf Mellberg back from Juventus to replace Laursen so Id doubt theyd be after Upson.

Shocking for us after he returned from Japan/S.Korea Can you see where I'm going with this? The second they get a call-up, they invariably think that they become too good for us and demand higher wages, transfers and the like. I was at Wembley in 1997 when Rio made his debut against Cameroon (He's have made it earlier if he hadn't been caught drink driving the weekend the Henri Paul wrapped Diana round a Parisien Pillar) and I was immensely proud of him, but this bollocks about it benefitting West Ham is just that - bollocks. Not once has a player that's received an England call up whilst playing for West Ham in the modern era thought "I'm happy to play for West Ham and England" they tend to think "I'm now good enough to play for Arsenal/Chelsea/Manchester United/Liverpool" even if they're not. |

Damned if we do and damned if we don't with this one. If they don't get call ups they end up moving to somewhere that they think will help them.

I dunno, I think that CfC is very happy to be with Zola, no matter what he gets told on England duty. Green knows that West Ham stood behind him whilst England
chose every other goalie in the league apart from him, and if Upson wants off, then it'll only speed Tompkins to being the top man in our defence, and the
money will come in handy.
And on Europe, West Ham with a fully fit squad this season would have been pushing for the Champions League and would have been comfortable in the Europa Cup places. 4 key players would have made a huge difference if Ashton had been fit, and we had not been deprived of Cole, Berhami and Collinson in the run-in. Theres no reason to think that we are going to go backward next term. |

"Theres no reason to think that we are going to go backward next term."
Thats based on the assumption that we wont be selling, which im not confident of. Equally, standing still can be equally as distructive when other teams around us will be spending again. (Spurs/Villa/Man City will all spend significantly this summer). |

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City both spent significantly last summer.
We finished in front of City and Tottenham finished an entire 0 points ahead of us. Any team that Redknapp's in charge of is going to spend in whatever window they're allowed to, regardless of how much money the club's got, or what the needs of the team are. He's fucking addicted to it. It's one of his traits.

During the last 12 months, West Ham have made a net transfer profit of approx £24million.
During the same period, the Totts made a net transfer expenditure of approx £76million. While Man City made a net transfer expenditure of approx £80million. In other words, the Totts spent £100mil more than us and Man City £104mil. For that, the Totts improved by 3 points (at a cost of £33mil per point); Man City are 5 points worse off (£20mil per point lost); West Ham ended two points better off (a profit of £12mil per point). West Ham finished one place higher, the Totts (one below us last season) finished above us on goal difference while Citeh fell one place to 10th. Now tell me why the fact Citeh and the Totts will undoubtedly outspend us again this summer by tens of millions means they will inevitably end next season any better off than us..... |

I'll bring it up with Upson while I'm in Kazakhstan.
I'm with Chopper though - we're damned if we do, damned if we don't. Their heads might get turned, but then if they don't get in they'll think they need to change Clubs. I think, FWIW, that they're better getting in the England squad AT West Ham. Besides, these cunts all know each other - there's nothing to say that Rio won't ring up Carlton Cole and tell him that Sir Alex wants him this Summer (which is what I fully expect to happen), so he may as well get in the squad. |

One thing is for sure, it definitely makes England easier to support when we have some of our players in the team. Without any sort of West Ham interest I
really struggle to back England and end up wanting Terry, Lampard etc to fail miserably.

I want the same, just while wanting the team to win. It's been fairly easy over the last few years - Lampard routinely fails miserably and England have
been doing ok (Flaky Face era ignored). If we could just find a left winger he'd be out altogether.

I'd turn that on its head Chopper.
Having a couple of West Ham players in the side means I can't hate Ing-ger-lund with my usual passion. So I compromise and hope England lose at the same time as our players do well. Especially tricky if Rob Green's playing... |
