Who knows how much of the interview reflects the truth but if Zola did identify the players he wanted to keep (and generally we are keeping them if they want
to stay) as well as those he wants to to improve the team (and we are going about getting them if we can) then that also seems to be the sensible way to go. To
often recently it seems the manager has been the last to know about what has been going on on the playing side. Also interesting to note we have no further
relationship with Kia.

What a horrible fucking job it must be, to have to deal every day with football people.
Chancers at best, crooks at the worst, and every one of them fighting to get an edge over the competition. Having to deal with agents here and overseas, the wild expectations of owners and chairman above you, and the derision and apparently threats of fans if it seems to be going wrong. Financial headaches, overpaid players to keep satisfied etc etc. Virtually no controls from the FA/PL, no serious attempt to police the crooks even though there appears to be some evidence implicating Allardyce/Redknapp and the rest in some sort of crooked behaviour. The police hauling Redknapp away at dawn, but nothing coming of it. So, to be fair to Duxbury, working with all that absolute filth every day it would be a major surprise if he didn't have at least a whiff of shite about him, and all credit to him for the way he's performed over the last year. |

Well Chin that only goes to back up my point about it being the right move for now. However I still don't believe it is sustainable long term, it simply
doesn't offer enough predictability but then I don't think anyone is by design planning that.

Fuck Tottenham. Fuck Man City. If we keep the basis of our first team from last season and add quality in the final third we will do well. I'd be happy
with that. The ownership thing is the worry not the tight ship we are running right now. We won't be further in debt like others and we have a manger that
overseas players have actually heard of and respect. But if some cunt involved with the actual ownership says we sell off assets more than we already have then
that is a problem. I don't know about the loans but it seems like good business if we do have the right to sign as suggested. A bit of try before you buy
can't be bad in the current climate.

Can anyone explain the difference between this board's policy and Gordon Brown's?
I can't see the difference. Leave the whole mess to be hopefully sorted out by the new owners. Let's say the club is worth £80 million. It seems to me the strategy is to let the likes of bellamy go for £10 million plus and tyhen replace with a 'loan'. Then whoever coms in to buy gets left with a fucking great bill to buy all the loanees at the same time. So between now and this time next year I expect to see Ashton, Upson, Green, Dyer, Parker and Cole go for about £50,000,000- To add to the Bellamy millions. All replaced by loanees. That means they can sell the club for about 25 million and have realised more than its value in cash. I'd call that asset stripping. |

We'll have to wait and see what happens, Surf.
If it pans out as you suggest then yes, that will be a bit of a mess... However if we hang onto Ashton, Upson, Green, Dyer, Parker and Cole etc etc, and use the odd couple of million knocking about (there must be a bit extra going spare...) on wages and fees for loan players(with the option to buy next year) then that can surely only be a good thing... |

If that is what happens then you'd be bang on. So far we have sold Bellamy. If we sell another big name in this window it will look like you are on the
right tracks. Problem is we just have to wait and see.

Surface - I think you're looking at it all the wrong way. Bellamy was sold, not just because he wanted to go, but because we were crippled, the banks were
on our backs and the chairman was bankrupt. As per Duckers interview, some of the money went to pay down debt, some went on the training ground and some went
towards Illunga's buy out. The last two are long term investments, the first was a necessity. I certainly don't see that as asset stripping at all.
The issue with Upson is simple, if a Champions league side came in for him, he's be off, same with Parker and Green in my opinion, and who could blame them? The money we would get would be used to buy similar or better players, for that we have Nani and Zola. If the club decides not to sell players with high values, then the loan to buy is the best way forward. The player gets a four year contract, if the loan period ends and we can't buy because we don't have the money, we just sell the player - simple and there's no risk there provided the fee we get goes someway towards the players wages just paid out. This year we're tight for cash because of the Baldes case, the debt left over after Eggy's reckless spending so we've got to move forward and cut our cloth accordingly. Outside the top 4 and Man Shitty I can't see any other club paying millions for players this year, all clubs are suffering banks nervousness. |

NEVER SELL YOUR BEST PLAYERS.
Unless of course they are injury prone, troublesome, unpopular, whinging and welsh. Selling that sort of player couldn't possibly be called asset-stripping. |

Pezza. i'm not talking about 'paying millions'. I'm talking about zero net sales / purchases. I bet we won't do that. It will be one year
loanees with an option to pay and the next owners can sort it out.
Whilst I do take the point that players on this sort of deal have an incentive to pay well for a contract, nonetheless, the club is restricted to signing that subset of pond-life that, for whatever reason, cannot atttract unconditional bid. So, as long as Nani can come up with some good ones (even though by everyone's admition it will be more and more difficult, because everyone will be at it now) we will be OK. So that's one Illunga (who has been average since he got his contract) against a Tristan, a DiMichele and a Kovac so far. Excuse me if I don't get over excited. Oh, and Jimenez, the one from Mancini (who's probably not coming) and Jimenez that no-one had even heard of or knows what position he plays. |

"the club is restricted to signing that subset of pond-life that, for whatever reason, cannot atttract unconditional bid"
We are more in the "cant break into one of the top club sides in the world, and have been made available for loan" cataogory. I cant see how you fail to recognise this. Its not like we are loaning Brian Deane, we are talking about players who cant shift the worlds best from their position, not washed up shit that a club is desperate to shift. |

Chin. If they have been available for loan, that means that the club that holds their registration wants them back.
If they have been made available for loan with an option to buy, it means that not only do they not want them on the permanent staff but nobody else does and the seller can't think of any other way of shifting them off the wage bill. It is a last resort, as we know since we have tried it ourselves with Faubert, Davenport and Quashie. |

Kovac, Tristan and DDM were perfect examples of why we should use this system. With Tristan and DDM we saw and we did not think they were up to it long
term. As for Kovac apparently we had an asking price that, once we had seen him perform at this level, we decided was too much given our financial position and
footballing needs. I am sure that in January had we paid the £5m or so his club want many would have thought that was good business for a current Czech
international with a good reputation, as it is whilst he may be worth that sort of money it was not the right buy for us at this moment.

Surface, but your comparing Apples and Oranges mate. To compare Quashie and Davenport to Jiminez and Mancini is ridiculous. I understand where your coming from
mate, but i think your wrong on this. We are taking players from the Italian champions with a combined value of £25m....you wouldnt get a third of that for the
3 you mentioned from us.
We are trying to play at a higher level here, and for the targets we have, a loan will be just as beneficial to them as it is to us. After all, Jiminez and Mancini have probably never heard of West Ham much before coming to europe and we are as unknown to them as they would be to us. Its almost like living together before getting engaged. |

Chin. I am obviously not explaining myself very well.
My point is this. I accept that loan with an option to buy is a great deal for the buyer. Therefore, it is a last resort for the potential seller. We know this from my examples. If it is a last resort for the seller, we can assume that they have tried their best, unseccessfully to offload the player in a permanent deal. Contrary to what has been stated on here, not every club is skint, therefore, all the best players (those with playing ability AND a good attitude) will go to clubs willing to do a permanent deal. What is left is the dregs. Hopefully, there may be some cream on that scum, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Having been royally rogered up the arse by every West Ham board I can remember, I can't see any reason to get excited by a board who are not in football for the long term and tells me we are definitely not going to make any permanent signings at all this year. But, by all means guys. You believe in the project. |

Surface, I understand you perfectly mate, but I honestly dont think the players we are after can be classed as "dregs".

I'm pretty much with Surface on this Chin.
I'm also going on nothing more that thirty years of being taken up hard up the wrong'un by the club. I'm so cynical now that it doesn't matter to me what they say, I wouldn't believe it until they prove it. We never keep our best players, so even when we do uncover a gem, I always wonder how long they'll stay for before a better club comes calling. If Jiminez turns out to be shit-hot this year - Wonderful. We'll just have to put up with him being linked with Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool next year. Oh, and Tottenham of course, when Redknapp lets it be known via the medium of his son or a 'friendly' journalist , that he really rates the player and would love to have him on board. *Twitches then presses speed dial for Willie MacKay* The cunt. |
