I was at Halifax in the league Cup.....must have been 68 or 69, we won er 4-1 I think and I remember that Lammie Robertson scored for them....I only remember
that cos my dad supported Halifax (but was still happy to take me to Upton Park regularly between '66 and '70).

Not sure if this is real or just my memory playing tricks, but I vividly remember a game against Man U (Docherty era) when they had 10 internationals and we
had eight reserves. Lutton played, I think also Wooler and a few of our kids (Pike maybe, Holland) but no senior defenders and Brooking out. And we won 2 - 1.
Bonds played the best game I ever saw him play, just rolled his socks down and through sheer force of character turned our buch of nervous reserves into world
beaters.
Just checked, team that day was: 1 Mervyn Day (18) 2 Keith Coleman (not very good) 3 Frank Lampard (Brilliant but injured I think) 4 Billy Bonds 1 (His finest hour) 5 Tommy Taylor (Less shit than usual) 6 Alan Wooler (The game of his life) 7 Mick McGiven (Another free/cheap journeyman, but great attitude) 8 Graham Paddon (Excellent player) 9 Bertie Lutton (Words fail me) 10 Pat Holland 1 (I always liked him but was usually in a minority) 11 Clyde Best (Never quite made the impact, but on his day excellent). That site is going to waste a lot of my life as I try to remember games from back then. |
