What has exaccerbated the race issue is the ruthless manipulation of this country's need for immigration of skilled labour to counter its problem of an aging population into a general free-for-all at our borders. This was done in a quite calculated attempt to gain party-political advantage by skewing the long-term voting demographic in Labour's favour.

What has exaccerbated the class issue is the abolition of the Grammar schools. This created a double-pronged attack on class mobility. Less smart, working-class kids were able to infiltrate the establishment by virtue of education and at the same time the upper and middle classes withdrew their smart kids from the state system, ghettoising them in private schools where established oligarchic tendancies were reinforced.

Between the 60s and the 80s, government, the arts, the city, law and pretty much everything else became much more meritocratic as the products of the 1944 Education Act rose to compete with the establishment. 30 years later, government, the arts, the city, law and pretty much everything else is once again run by a cadre of ex-public schoolboys.
