The Pendleton doc was incredible. I made my daughter stay up and watch it even though it was a school night and she was transfixed. It's easy to think that all these people have to do is turn up to training in the morning and do their thing. But it's clear when you're lucky enough to get a real insight into the greatest athletes lives that training is just a part of it. Strange how so often the glory of the winning is a result of something bad. Her Dad came across as a cunt who had failed in his own life and played his kids off against each other. It was trying to compete for that attention that got her on the way to winning. Also found two of her quotes really interesting: "when I became world champion, I thought I might have some potential" and "when I won the gold the over-riding emotion was relief".

You can't help noticing that a lot of people at the Olympics have had to overcome massive hardship to get there in all kinds of forms. Seperating the games out into two and having a ParaOlympics just creates a more competitive environment. There are two people who could compete in the ParaOlympics in the Olympics this time round.
