More pertinent - What is the point of the development squad ? If Sam isn't giving Lee, Sadlier and even the younger ones like Oxford a chance with the first team in pre season (after impressing so far) whats the point ? What is to be gained from Lee bagging goal after goal after goal for that squad as he has done for the past 3 years ? what more can he do ? Its like the first team and the development squad are two seperate clubs.
I think the point of the development squad is that every so often a player will come along who the manager has enough faith in to try out at a higher level.  It doesn't happen that often.  I haven't got the slightest indication that there are great players not getting their chance (and indeed the one player we have got who could genuinely be described as having the potential to be world class is not currently good / disciplined enough on or off the pitch to be given a chance.

I don't mean to single you out, but there seems to be a real disconnect in people's heads.  On the one hand they want kids who have nothing but a small amount of potential to get a game, on the other Carroll is a waste of space despite (arguably) proving that even for £15m all you get is an inury prone, one dimentional player.  FFS - if a £15m player ain't all that how the fuck does anyone expect untried kids to be anything?
