Do you really wanna bring this up again?  In ascending order of relative acceptability -

Gas pun
Auschwitz pun
Third Reich / Hitler pun
Mussilini / italian fascist pun (they were less bad than the nazis)

I made an auschwitz pun in the context of a website where, it appeared to me, based on the coon shit that is not uncommon and the gas shit on this very thread, it was acceptable.  In most contexts I would argue that fascism is not a subject for jokes (apart from in the context of - say - stewart lee making a clearly anti-fascist point).

Personally I would (hope to) never make a gas / hissing pun / joke.  I can see the logic in that being beyond the pale and totally unacceptable in all contexts.  But if you are going to joke about a right wing ideology intrinsinctly linked to the holocaust then I find it hard to accept that a pun on himmler's name or a nazi salute is acceptable, but a place name isn't.

I see the logic in drawing the line at gas and hissing.  I see the logic in drawing the line at 'no fascist jokes whatsoever'.  But what I really don't fucking get in the cunts on here that seem to think that the truth is somewhere in the middle, but are too stupid or lazy to bother to explain where they think that line is and why.  Pricks.
