No player should be guaranteed a starting place but I really don't see why Carroll shouldn't be among the first picked. He's a very good player indeed and will get better. Nolan I am sure will gradually wind down his career but he still has a lot to offer.
The reason he shouldn't be amongst the first of the teamsheet every week is -

He is not quick
We have two other very very good strikers who are quick and harder working
Said very good two stikers are the best ones for the system which has given us our best results, best performanaces and prettiest football this year

I am not criticising 352 or carroll vs swansea.  I am saying 352 should not be used very often, and I am saying that carroll should not be as much of a first choice as he is.

WTF did Nolan do on Saturday?  I can see an argument for true brit grit in noble's absence.  I can see an argument for him being the best second striker playing off carroll for the times we want to return to last year's football.  I'm not saying he should never play or is totally shot.  But looking at him trying to control a ball under pressure and find a team-mate compared to downing, or noble, or amalfitano, or song, or (probably but I'm not sure I can promise this one) Kayoute... fucking embarrassing.
