The shape disappears, we can't touch the ball in midfield and Sweden level at 3-3. Then the hugely overrated Fraizer Campbell is sent off for being a northern braindead. But, God knows how, we win on penalties. Looking forward to the final......without Hart, Agbonlahor and Campbell who are all suspended. Leaving Walcott as our only "striker". Against Italy or Germany. Oh dear...

Was working in the Netherlands and another individual in the office, whom I didn't know, saw it on my screen and shook my hand so warmly and started speaking, (all be it in very poor English) to me. I thought 'fuck it', if he can speak to me in a foreign language to him the least I can do is work hard to understand him. Said individual was from Brazil and we spent the next two plus hours, (and many times thereafter), discussing not just that game but all things football. Universal language and universal friendship, all over a moment in time, but what a moment.

Sometimes the team needs to take responsibility for their own performances. That tackle on Jaizinho was one of about a dozen Moore did in that game, they should show that 1970 Brazil v England game to the current England team before they depart for South Africa to put their egos into perspective.

Any truth in that Yep. Labone was a far better partner for Moore than Charlton. Mullery played the destructive role as well as Stiles but was a more accomplished all-round player. Newton and Cooper were on a par with Cohen and Wilson even if the game had changed in those four years with the advent of the "overlapping fullback". The youngsters of 66 had also matured as players. My one doubt would be whether Francis Lee gave more to the side than Roger Hunt...

Bobby Moore was at his mercurial best. Never have I see an England side come close to the technical ability of that group of players or the general quality of the passing. Unfortunately they were weaker in a few key areas, Hurst wasn't the player he had been earlier and peters hadn't quite developed as far as many had expected, perhaps he had been sussed by then. I think that the overall confidence in that side was the biggest asset mind like so many German teams they expected to win and that always adds a dimension to your play. Francis Lee of course is probably the only player who finished a season as top league scorer only to have over half his goals scored from penalties, if my memory serves me right.

Pearce didn't even have a Plan A. It was embarrassing and very disappointing. Sadly, Noble also had a bit of a mare as the Germans by-passed midfield completely and tore apart our back line while building the usual defensive brick wall. Noble didn't look great but people like Onuoha, Richards and Crainie (and No2 keeper Loach) were made to look rank...
