Definitely over rated and over hyped. His first serves yesterday were pathetic - only 52% in I think. Safina is the world no. 1 and she was absolute shite in
the semis. Its possible to be no. 1 in the rankings without every having won a tournament. Obviously, the number of tournaments you enter comes into the
rankings, and Safina entered every tournament going.

Much as i love tennis, it doesn't rouse much patriotism within me, and even if it did, i'd still want Murray to lose. Spoilt, arrogant, petulant, and
stroppy- i struggle to think of a less likeable player out there. In a strange reversal of roles, i actually often find myself warming to the American players.
They seem uncharacteristically decent, especially in comparisson to the typical American sportspeople.

Fatigued, rankings are done differently in women's tennis. Obviously Safina's ranking is ridiculous, she won just 20 points against Venus.
It is possible to under-perform on the day, combine that with coming up against a player playing pretty much a perfect game and you're going to go out. Roddick was more aggressive, hit winners at the right moments and his serving was immense (80% of first serves in in the first set, 75% overall). He's won 26 out of 30 tie-breaks this year thanks to his serve - Murray's record is excellent too, but it's a bit like playing the Germans at penalties. Murray is not overhyped though. Before yesterday he had a 6-2 lead over Roddick and easily beat him in straight sets at Wimbledon three years ago. He's won 11 tournaments (as many as Henman won over his career), has beaten Federer four times in a row this year and got to the final of the US having beaten Nadal. You know, Federer never got past the last eight of a grand slam until 2003? |
