A Man of Constant Sorrow wrote:I'm sure it's very enjoyable for the people concerned - and good luck to them. But I have even less desire to watch them than I do the able-bodied athletes - and I don't really give a fuck about them. So long as disabled access and rights continues to be eroded in this country I'll continue to believe this old nonsense to be tokenistic guff...

Misunderstood Machiavelli wrote:AMoCS, you can't be serious that disabled rights have been eroded. Fuck my old boots, you can't move these days for disabled rights legislation and everyday life for the disabled is unrecognisable from how it was say 30 years ago. I work in an industry related to construction and virtually everything we do these days has to take into account the needs of the disabled even where it is completely irrelevant. To give you an example, we had to fit out a council sports pavilion recently with new showers. The showers are used weekly by football and rugby teams. The new installation however had to be designed and installed to take account of the possibility that wheelchair users might want to use them. Yep, despite the fact that wheelchairsers can't actually play football or rugby, we had to fit showers and ramps and god knows what else to take account of the fact that one day they might. Jeez, they even have a multi-trillion-billion olympic event of their own these days with an army of lottery funded hyper fit cripples.Gone are the days of the three pin plug turquoise spaz car too. They all have 'Motorbility' funded proper cars these days, often better than an able bodied person at work can afford.Yep, erosion of disabled rights alright.
