Thank God for the Whitehill family of Custom House or I'd have gone the same way. Although there is a picture in existence of me in a Man Utd kit as a child which my parents have never sufficiently explained.
So here we are. An unprecedented brilliant pre-season of constant feelgood stories slamming into us like asteroids into the young planet Earth during the Late Heavy Bombardment Epoch (Google it - science is awesome) closes and the 2014/15 installment is here.
Fuck knows what is going to happen from now on. I'm not one to criticise Sam for the sake of it or for things he hasn't actually done yet, but I seem to recollect many examples of standing on the BML wondering where our new signings are as they sure aren't on the pitch. I imagine we'll see our latest wardrobe start but I'm resigned to Poyet's inevitable six-month loan to Ipswich after Christmas and Zarate's Plan B status.
Anyway, Tottenham. I think we played them three times last season though the traditional lack of available information about West Ham means I honestly can't remember the results.
If you would like to gee yourself up a little for tomorrow and the next nine months then read this from bottom to top. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18131326
We did the "played for both teams stuff" to death last year. How about video clips this season? Here's Freddie Piquionne's goal from four years ago, with absolutely no footage of the actual goal.
