Can't Recognise A Footballer
Lake Palmer aka Monk wrote:This is the difficult phase. Denial, then anger but soon will come acceptance, forgiveness and then you can move on. You're a lost cause. The team win 3 nil and you're central midfielder does nothing ? I think the problem comes not from you not going to games but from never playing it. You don't win games if you're central midfielder does nothing. You just can't appreciate it. Your hero BFS picks him reguarly surely that must be good enough for you. After reading Jack Charlton you highlighted the team thing. Nolan is a cog in a machine.

Thick as Fucking Pigshit
I guess most have said it, but to add my two penny worth:
Nolan did ok last night, I think his benefits of being in the side outdo the negatives. What he is is a good leader, he sticks to his job and tries 100% which may not be enough to keep him in the team week after week given there are better technical players than him that are missing or do the job better. I don't necessarily agree with Monl when he says he deserves his place in the team because we won 3 - 0, because he didn't score or contribute to the goals so by definition we could easily have drawn that game ....
The first half was very drab and aside from Collins and Valencia there was too much lethargy and the ba;; was just not moved quick enough. in part due to the lack of movement but Noble in particular played too many sideways and backwards passes which as we saw last year results in loss of possession or the hoof upfield as we get squeezed up the park. As BFS said Noble looked tired of mind and body so in truth should he not have been rested given he wasn't that great against Everton in midweek either?
I thought Valencia and Carroll second half looked a good combo, and it definitely upsets the balance playing him wide left and Downing out of his favourite and most effective position. Dropping Nolan back with Song after Noble went off and changing things made all the difference.
What I think we all tend to forget is that we are still building a team and we are going to get the odd game where the team are off the boil, and that hasn't happened much at all this season so shouldn't we all be pleased with that? Or have we all become like Spurs fans and expect to punch above our weight in every game. One thing to remember - where were we last year and would we have won that game last year ... No ....

That's a load of shit in my opinion. He deserves his place because he did his job so well the team were able to win 3 nil. End of. Your problem is you can't understand what he did in the game. Its like too massive a concept for your brain, you're short circuiting.

Amalfitano can do that for about 10 or 15 minutes but no longer than that because he gets bored or something. Poyet might be able to do that one day but is too young at the moment. Jarvis is too scared to do that. So Nolan is a first pick at the moment. He's also easily the most proficient striker of the ball at the club. If Robin Van Persie had hit the bar from an impossible angle the way Nolan did yesterday, when everyone else was turning away for a goalkick, they'd be saying, 'Only RVP could have tried that...'

Stalker of Clowns
Talk about a game of two halves! The whole team was shit first half - luckily Hull's finishing was sub-Premier League-standard, and we were let off the hook. The boos and groans at half-time were for the whole team. It was rubbish, and the paying customers let their feelings known - that's normal, that's human nature, and you'd better get used to it, as the club are hoping to get around 50,000 paying customers at the O/S. 2nd half, there was more urgency in our play right from the start. We moved the ball with more speed and accuracy, and then, after the change, the team had more shape with Downing in the middle, and we completely outplayed Hull, who, judging by their total lack of fight after going a goal down, are heading for relegation. Nolan was awful 1st half - but no more awful than anyone else - and Nolan was good 2nd half, especially after Downing replaced Noble in the middle, and the team had a better shape. Brilliant shot from a tight angle from Nolan, when he hit the bar.
The same people who booed at half-time, all cheered and applauded the team off at the end - that's normal, that's human nature. Noble had one of those games where he misplaced virtually every pass - the first real stinker of a match he's had this season? (he had a few last season, and that's why he'll never get near an England squad). Given that both Noble & Nolan lack pace, I don't think we can afford to have them both together in central midfield. It has to be one or the other. Collins' tackling, heading and blocking was excellent, as usual, and it has been all season. Unfortunately his distribution was particularly poor yesterday - he more than anyone has the tendency to aimlessly hoof, and concede possession. But, then again, considering how good Collins' other defensive qualities are, if he could pass the ball too, then he wouldn't be at West Ham, but some Champions League team!

I refuse to accept that the future will be all about idiots who can't spell the word loyalty venting their stupidity in even greater numbers. Allardyce has forgotten more about football than even the most knowledgeable fan, and the fact that he tried something out then changed it with plenty of time for it to work shows that he isn't rigid, not that he is clueless.
